Keeping your office tidy is always a major concern, you want the place to look at it’s best and a tidy office increases productivity. To keep an office nice and tidy however, you need to get rid of your waste and ditch the things you don’t really need anymore.

This can sometimes be easier said than done and it also brings up the issue of how you impact the environment with you waste. While you throw out all your rubbish you could actually be harming the earth, forcing more waste into landfill sites. So what can you do to keep your office tidy in a green way?

The answer is recycling, something most companies do as standard now. To help you reduce your waste and increase recycling in your office we’ve got some easy tips for you to utilise.

recycling

Paper Recycling

One thing offices use the most is paper. While a lot of work is done on computers now there is still of lot of paper being used and thrown away.

  • Create dedicated bins for your paper/cardboard waste and regular waste. This will allow you to avoid sorting through your rubbish, making for easier recycling.
  • Print on both sides of the paper to reduce the amount of paper you get through, not only will this lower your waste, it will save you money on paper supplies.
  • Shred old paperwork and put it to use as a packaging material, this leaves less paper lying around and gives you a new material to utilise.
  • Use recycled ink cartridges. You can purchase old ink cartridges to stop these dangerous items entering landfill, most companies will also take back old cartridges to put back into use.
  • Buy recycled paper. Most paper contains a certain amount of recycled material these days, but the higher the percentage, the more you’re doing for the environment.

Electronic Recycling

In this age of technological reliance we use a lot of different devices, many of which become outdated and need upgrading. When it comes to disposing of electrical equipment you can seriously harm the environment if you simply throw it away, with internal parts taking decades to break down. Instead, you should look into WEEE recycling, where your old, unwanted electronics can be taken away and recycled in a safe manner.

If you feel that your old equipment still has life left in it, but you don’t want it lying around cluttering up your desks, why not donate it to a local charity. You could also try selling it online to make back a little bit of money.

Buy Recycled & Repurpose

They key to a tidy, clean and environmentally friendly office is to make more of what you have and buy things which have been created from recycled materials where you can.

If you have old furniture which needs to be thrown out perhaps you could think about repurposing it and making it a useful part of your office rather than something which looks ugly and takes up room unnecessarily.
